What to Eat at the State Fair of Texas 2026 — Before It Opens

The State Fair of Texas doesn't open until September 25. Tastemakers did not wait.
They've already been through Fair Park — early invites, Big Tex finalists, the whole fried-and-frosted circuit — and those takes are mapped. This year Social Foodie has a dedicated event screen for it, plus a geo-located banner if you're in Texas. Fair Park isn't a pin you have to hunt. It's a table.
That's the first of these screens. Food festivals, county fairs, the weekend things you fly for: same idea, around the country, as the year turns. The State Fair of Texas is the one on the calendar right now — September 25 through October 18 at 925 South Haskell Avenue in Dallas.
Here are the five dishes tastemakers have already rated highest, among anything more than one of them scored. Their numbers, not ours.
Fried Green Tomato Lobster Bruschetta @ Lobster Lounge

Two early looks, both near the top of the card. Trey's Chow Down called it "simply lobster-oliciousness." Vanessa put it at 9.5/10 and said she'd get it again.
Fair food is supposed to be a stunt. This one is a plate: fried green tomato, lobster, bruschetta. If you're building a first-day route, start here.
Love Me Jam Sandwich @ Highland Park Soda Fountain

Peanut butter, banana jam, bacon, tater chips — layered, not shy. Trey's Chow Down logged the build. Vanessa scored it 9/10 and said she loved it, especially if you already love peanut butter.
It's a soda-fountain sandwich that wandered onto the midway and decided to stay.
Midnight Ruby Rush @ Tony's Taco Shop

A drink with the scores of a finale. Vanessa called it her favorite drink of the early walk and gave it 10/10. Trey's Chow Down tasted Jamaican strawberries and hibiscus. Nikki Darden just said amazing.
If the savory line is long, this is the sip that keeps showing up next to the food.
Focaccia alla Porchetta e Salsa Verde @ EATALY

Vanessa again at 9.5/10: delicious, would definitely get again. Amanda J. called the focaccia fresh and said it tastes great — an 8/10 from her.
It's not fried. It's not on a stick. It's still in the early pile because the people who ate it kept it there.
Texas Pecan Praline Cheesecake Cone @ Cone'd

Nine tastemakers have already scored this one. That's the most-reviewed dish on the grounds so far, and the high end is loud.
Big Dawg (bigdawg.tv) gave it a 10/10 in his early Fair Park take and called it one of the best things he's ever had. Shane Johnson (shanereviewedthat) got an exclusive invite for a pre-opening taste test; in his review he liked the Biscoff on it. Dre went 11/10. Vanessa, Jenna Passaro, Amanda J. — same cone, same direction.
If you only remember one stand from this list, remember Cone'd.
The screen is the map
Open the State Fair of Texas 2026 page and the midway is a list you can walk: stands, sips, the people who got there first. In the app, the same event lives on its own screen, and if you're in Texas the banner finds you.
Big Dawg also put Nacho Wings from Cody & Lauren Hays at 9/10 and called them his favorite thing there — a personal pick, not a crowd average. Add him as a fave if DFW festival food is your beat. Save the cone. Then go see what else lands once the gates open.
This is the first event screen. It won't be the last.
Get the app and take Fair Park with you.
